Biography

Martinez's professional experience includes working as a police officer and detective. He retired from the District Attorney's Office as a sergeant investigator in 2003. After his retirement, he began working as a licensed private investigator for a company he and his wife owned called CM Investigations Inc.[1]

Martinez wrote the following statement on his campaign website:[2]

As your Sheriff I will:
  • Reject Sanctuary Cities and provide compassionate cooperation with ICE in enforcing our nation's immigration laws.
  • Protect your Second Amendment Rights.
  • Set up mental health diversion programs/jail assessment teams/re-evaluate medication requirements/inter-agency cooperation with social services.
  • Create a stand-alone unit dedicated to assisting sexual assault victims through forensic nursing and throughout prosecution/expedite forensic testing for evidence.
  • Community advisory board/community outreach (including public schools) representing a diverse constituency.
  • Create a terrorism strikeforce and promote cooperation with all law enforcement entities within Travis County on being alert to signs of unrest while keeping the focus on prevention and response.
  • Set up animal abuser registry and cooperate with FBI on national animal abuser data base. I will arrest and prosecute animal abusers to fullest extent of the law, I will also set up interagency task force to evaluate all vulnerable life within a “family” where violence is discovered.
  • In juvenile crimes I will focus on intervention as opposed to incarceration.
  • Focus on using new technology for enhancing public safety.
  • Have increased training for deputies in the areas of community action, problem solving, technology, interpersonal communications with victims & community.
  • Train the force specifically on communications with diverse constituency to assist with a team approach.
  • Enhance cooperation with local jurisdictions’ law enforcement agencies & city councils.[3]

The general election was held on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on March 1, 2016, and a primary runoff took place on May 24, 2016.
