Campaign themes
2016
Patton's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Fiscal responsibility
- Excerpt: "I think you are taxed enough already, so reasonable spending reductions and eliminating tax loopholes is a solution that works. You have to live within your budget, I believe the government can too."
Education
- Excerpt: "Do you fund the schools? Of course. We should fully support the schools. But let's have the school districts undergo professional efficiency audits and make any reasonable adjustments."
Right to life
- Excerpt: "I have a 100% pro-life voting record and carried the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act on the floor the of Kansas House of Representatives, giving us the strongest protection for life in the United States."
Jobs
- Excerpt: "Sending our kids and grandkids out of state to find jobs is simply not acceptable. We need to get our spending and borrowing under control to avoid pressures to increase taxes."
Economic freedom
- Excerpt: "I have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with other fiscal conservatives to try to stop overspending in the House. Now is the time to bring this common sense message to the Senate."
Accountability and transparency in government
- Excerpt: "If elected, I will work hard to make recorded votes on the floor and in committee the rule. Voters are entitled to know how their elected representatives are voting all the time."
Liberty, freedom, and defending the Constitution
- Excerpt: "I agree with recent legislation that would protect religious freedom for our students. I also have a consistent record of supporting your 2nd Amendment rights."
Tax fairness
- Excerpt: "Our current system was designed by career politicians trying to reward the favored few with expensive and costly loopholes that drive up the tax rates for seniors and middle-class taxpayers. On my first day in office, I will introduce a bill to make sure everyone pays their fair share."
2008
Patton's answers to the Kansas State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test are available.
When asked in the test of his legislative priorities he said,
I will continue fight for property tax relief. The government is putting a financial squeeze on seniors on fixed incomes. With property taxes going up every year, they are being forced to sell their homes or do without essentials to pay the taxes. We should change the system to protect their homes. In addition we have to hold the line on spending. I cannot and will not support a tax increase on homeowners."[2]
