Joe Pittman (Republican Party) is a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing District 41. He assumed office on June 10, 2019. His current term ends on November 30, 2028.

Pittman was selected as state Senate majority leader in January 2023.[1]

Pittman was born in Indiana County, Pennsylvania in 1977. He was appointed to the Purchase Line School Board when he was 18 years old and continued to serve on the board until graduating from Penn State University in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.[2] Pittman also worked as chief of staff for former Pennsylvania Sen. Don White (R) from 2000 to 2019.[3][4]

Pittman served as chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs & Housing Committee and vice chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee. He was a member of the Appropriations, Banking & Insurance, Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, and Judiciary committees. Pittman was also a member of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority Board of Directors.[3]

Pittman said he ran for office "to continue a legacy of being a committed, problem-solving Senator who will place the needs of constituents first. I believe the resolution to our state’s financial issues should be cemented in the belief that we must get government out of the way of job creators by eliminating needless regulations, reducing the tax burden and keeping money where it belongs… in the hands of hardworking Pennsylvanians."[2]

On his 2024 campaign website, Pittman said his priorities as Senate leader were "advancing legislative initiatives to create jobs, implement infrastructure improvements, support law enforcement and limit government overreach."[3]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Pennsylvania

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
