As a United States Marine I signed a blank check up to and including my life in the defense of the greatest country in the world. While my days in the Marine Corps have passed, it is often said: "Once a Marine, always a Marine."

Representing my fellow Kansans in District 32 is a way for me to continue my mission of Honor, Courage and Commitment. The oath I took to defend my country is just as important to me now as it was then, and I would be honored to defend and strengthen the United States of America and the great state of Kansas. I want to embrace this challenge, because Kansas is under attack on many fronts.

I'm in this race for YOU, not myself. I signed the Term Limits Pledge, and I won't squander FIVE terms (TEN YEARS) like my opponent who has let the major bridges in and out of KCK crumble and close and our children's education system fail.

Kansans are struggling to make ends meet, our children are failing at school, and the traditional values of faith and family are crumbling. I once stood in the breech as a United States Marine, and I would be honored to do the same as your Representative.
  • I will represent EVERYONE, not just a cadre of white, democrat friends just because they've "know me for years.
  • I won't treat this office like my own, personal retirement plan. The voters repeatedly tell me they're concerned with the education system, the infrastructure, taxes and the failing economy, and they feel like their representative hasn't done anything about that for a decade!!!
  • Unlike the current, ineffective representative, I CAN work across the aisle as well as stand up to my own party when the needs of District 32 are being ignored.
Waste and abuse! We are taxed to death, and I personally believe taxation is theft to begin with. Waste must be cut and further legislation to take more taxpayer money must be met with strong resistance and scrutiny.

If you didn't get it right the first time, you shouldn't be coming back for more later on.
My father passed away earlier this year, and I admired him the most.

He always stood up or stood by anyone in need.

When everyone else just stood by, Dad always stepped up to support, defend or fight for the right thing.
Something to Stand For with Mike Rowe

Bluntness and authenticity, but you must also be humble and open to hearing other ideas.
Fierce loyalty, common sense, and the refusal to accept and idea, person or concept that is solely rooted in "well, we've always done it that way."
You serve the citizens in your district first, but you need to weigh in the needs of the state as well.

You are responsible for being a good steward of state funds with an eye on the future and study history to reuse beneficial ideas and not repeat past mistakes.
That I represented my constituents and led with the idea that the government works at the behest of the people, not the other way around.
The Iran hostage crisis in November 1979. I was about to turn 8, and I remember the fear and tension at home, church, etc.
I did odd jobs (mowing, landscaping, etc) for an attorney who worked from home. I did it for two summers in 8th and 9th grade.
The Hobbit. It was the first "adult" book I read from cover to cover, and it further inspired me to always read.
The Proof of Your Love by King & Country
Feeling like an imposter. Sometimes I respect or fear people because of their title, role or standing and I forget they are still just a human being.
I can tell you what is NOT ideal and that is the pettiness I've seen recently that has been put ahead of the issues and concerns of the citizens of Kansas.
Education, economic growth and infrastructure.

We're always playing catch up and/or kicking the issue down the road.

I will be proactive in working an issue through resolution, not just moving on to the next fire.
Experience is always beneficial, but one thing someone with that experience should see as part of that experience is that fresh ideas, common sense, and leadership skills of new representatives are invaluable.
The late Bob Dole has always been someone I admired. While he was a staunch Republican, he was known for his ability to work across the aisle with Democrats.

As a fellow veteran, I want to follow in his footsteps with civil service being a continuation of my service to the country and the state of Kansas.
I signed the term limits pledge. Unlike my opponent, I have no desire to use this position as a retirement plan. If I do go down a path of civil service I would run for different offices where I can be of value to the citizens that office represents.
A coworker of mine had to "self deport" himself because he couldn't get his work visa renewed in time even though he started the process two months out.

It then took an additional six months before he could get worked through the immigration system to return to the US to work.

Here is someone immigrating the RIGHT, LEGAL way, and he's practically being punished for it! This wrong, and although I am running for a state office I will still be focused on reforming the immigration system however I can at the state level.
On road trips, I will, out of nowhere, sternly exclaim, "Hey!!!" which silences everyone in the car. Then they'll see I'm pointing at a bale of hay in a field off the highway.
The governor should be able to call emergency powers up, but the legislature should have final say to ensure the unique needs of every part of the state is taken into account.
For every piece of legislation added to the books, two more need to be removed.
Kansans for Life
Kansas College Republicans
As a newly elected official I would defer any recommended appointments to more seasoned representatives, but education and taxation committees interest me the most.
Omnibus bills with unrelated amendments tacked on are not something I would vote for.

I also will work to approve a measure that for every piece of legislation that is put up for a vote, two existing pieces must be selected to be REMOVED from Kansas books.

On July 1st, 101 NEW laws took effect in Kansas with NONE being removed. Our law books are bloated and confusing and the average Kansas is not able to go about their daily lives and know what is going on, but massive corporations and municipalities can take advantage of it with their large legal resources.
Yes, and I also support Article V convention of states.
