My family's collectivism, hard work, and commitment to country and community left a strong impression on me. The other place I lived that influenced my values and beliefs, was the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. Here I learned about a distinct culture and the value of minority perspectives. More importantly, I learned what it was like to be the minority often times being the only non Indian in my elementary classroom.
From a formal education standpoint, I completed high school in Moorhead, MN and then went on to earn a BA in History and BS in Social Studies Education from Moorhead State University. Since graduation, I have taught social studies at the high school level for 20 years and earned my Masters of History from St. Cloud State University. Over the last 12 years, Monticello has become home, and providing opportunities for my students to become active, engaged young adults has become my passion.
The thing that I am most proud of is my family. I have been married to my wife Tara for the past 21 years. She is a teacher at Buffalo High School. We have two lovely daughters, Sophie is an 8th grader who loves music and politics, and Alemitu a 4th grader who loves math and soccer.- I support fully-funded education.
- I support affordable healthcare for all.
- I support paid family leave.
Fully funded Pre-K and career readiness education.
Job security for caregivers and new parents.
Mental health funding and life-saving treatments.
