I was born and raised in northern California. When I was just 15-years-old, I had to get a job and start making ends meet. At 16-years-old, I was working 2 jobs while in high school and keeping up with extra-curricular activities. Currently, I am a Shift Supervisor at the Ocean and Water Starbucks in Santa Cruz. I led the first Starbucks in California to file for a union election and now work with Starbucks Stores across the state in order to fight corporate greed.I come from a working-class Hispanic background, my family is proudly and deep-rooted in this community and has lived here for many generations. My great-grandfather was a union electrician with the railroad, and growing up now, it seems that I am continuing that legacy. Being from a working-class, multi-ethnic family, I understand the importance of advocating for economic and racial justice.
  • Vote for the future, vote for change, vote for Joe
  • We need youth representation in the state legislature!
  • Who’s your State Assemblymember? Don’t know, Vote Joe!
My Main priorities in office will include:

ADDRESSING RAPID INFLATION

SUPPORTING THE LABOR MOVEMENT

MEDICARE FOR ALL (CALCARE)

GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

RESTORING OUR ENVIRONMENT

I have many inspiring people I look up to. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Elizabeth Warren among other progressives fighting for policies that benefit the average Joe. I believe that I should follow the progressive example they set out hoping to achieve.
No, but it’s very easy, I just want to help the working and middle-class people and tax the corrupt wealthy to help pay it.
The most important principles are integrity, passion, and curiosity. All I know is that I know nothing, I will be a constant learner and advocate for the people not just the wealthy.
Leadership, integrity, and customer service, are all of these qualities that make me ready to serve and represent the people of our district.
Simple, represent the people. Not big-money donors, not corporations, not anyone other than your constituents.
If I can build a movement among youth to be active in politics, that’s the legacy I hope to leave.
January 6th. This event and day was the most tragic in my lifetime. I remember watching as rioters stormed the capital and wondering what was gonna happen. Is this the end of our democracy or will Trump just refuse to leave? I was only 17-years-old at the time but I knew what was happening was wrong and unjustified.
My very first official job was as a busboy for a local restaurant. I would clean and bus tables, clean dishes, mob floors, and work with customers and other staff to provide the best customer service possible. I was soon promoted to kitchen staff, after that I was the youngest shift lead at the restaurant and would have many responsibilities on closing nights. I worked there for 2 years and a few months, however, during the start of the pandemic, I was laid off from this job luckily I had a second job at Starbucks to help pay the bills.
Secrets of A Successful Organizer, this book helped me organize my store and was one of the best books I have ever read.
Nicknames by Dayglow, I went to a concert with Dayglow and Hovvdy and after Nicknames was stuck in my head for months.
When I was 16-years-old my estimated out-of-pocket dental cost was over $20,000. Luckily I got a job at Starbucks so I could get health coverage, but I still have to deal with medical costs and I believe that healthcare is a human right for all.
I believe that the state legislature should hold most of the power and assist the Governor in carrying out the laws that the legislature passes.
Climate Change. Droughts, Wildfires, Floods, and other environmental pressures placed on California due to the climate crisis need to be addressed.
I believe that a unicameral legislature is more efficient and effective but less democratic meanwhile the bicameral allows for more diverse voices to be heard.
No. We need regular people holding office, not dynasties, corporate special interests, or other bought politicians.
I believe it’s a very important aspect to be able to build relationships and foster collaboration among allies.
Independent redistricting committee.
I would aspire to be on the Elections Committee, Housing and Community Development Committee, and Labor and Employment Committee. I would want to serve on these committees because they are related to a lot of major issues facing Californians.
I would try and model myself after James Coleman and Alex Lee.
While I was volunteering, a homeless person described their situation to me. They had lost their job being laid off, their girlfriend broke up with them, their car got impounded and all they really had left was the clothes on their back. The system is designed to let us fail, it’s designed to keep homeless people homeless, I want to envision a world where homelessness was a thing of the past, everyone is fed and no longer food insecure or hungry and lastly, everyone has a pathway to bettering their life.
The NSA: a government organization that actually listens to you!
Absolutely, corrupt governments are a threat to the people, having transparency and oversight are needed in any democracy.
It truly depends but I do think that if you’re using fact-based policy there should be no compromise but it really depends on the specific issue at hand.
