Joel Heitkamp is the host of "News & Views with Joel Heitkamp", a weekday radio program on KFGO radio in Fargo, N.D.[1] From 1995 to 2008, he was a Democratic senator in the North Dakota State Senate, representing Senate District 26.[2] Heitkamp is the brother of U.S. Sen. from North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp (D).

Career

Joel Heitkamp managed the Southeast Water Users District (SEWUD) for 23 years, and was named Outstanding Water Works Employee in 1995 by the North Dakota Rural Water Systems Association (with Bill Link).[1][3] From 1995 to 2008, he was a Democratic senator in the North Dakota State Senate. He represented Senate District 26.[2] In 2005, he jointed KFGO radio in Fargo, N.D. and, in 2009, started as host of "News & Views with Joel Heitkamp", a weekday radio program.[1]

In 2013, Heitkamp was named to the list of Top 500 Influencers in American Politics by Campaigns & Elections Magazine. Campaigns & Elections said of Heitkamp, "He makes his living as a talk show host, but is sought after for advice. Together with his sister Heidi he forms part of the Democratic brain trust."[4]
