Louisiana held partisan elections for local judicial offices in 2016. A primary election took place on November 8, 2016, and a general election took place on December 10, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wish to run in this election was July 22, 2016.[1] Christie Mayeux and Stacy Smith defeated Pam Alonso and Joel Murphy in the Ascension Parish Justice Court (Ward 2) primary election.[2]

Judges of the Louisiana Justice of the Peace Courts are each elected to six-year terms. The elections for this court are partisan contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a local resident for two years, younger than 70 years old, and have a law degree.[3]
