John Andrews (Maine)
John Andrews (Republican Party) is running for election to the Maine State Senate to represent District 18. He declared candidacy for the 2026 election.[source]
Andrews (Republican Party) was a member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing District 79. He assumed office on December 6, 2022. He left office on June 12, 2024.
On December 14, 2020, Andrews announced that he was leaving the Republican Party and joining the Libertarian Party of Maine. In a Facebook post on December 12, Andrews cited House minority leader Kathleen Jackson Dillingham as his reason for leaving the party, saying, "My leaving the Republican party is a direct reflection of Kathleen Dillingham's lack of leadership and vindictive nature. The House GOP is in severe lack of leadership."[1][2]
On December 30, 2021, Andrews announced that he was leaving the Libertarian Party and would register as a Republican. He said he switched his affiliation due to a state law requiring candidates to register with a party before Jan. 1 in order to run for office. Libertarian voters in Maine had been automatically unenrolled due to the party's membership falling below the state's 5,000 member requirement.[3] U.S. District Court Judge Lance Walker had ruled the practice unconstitutional on November 17, 2021, but denied the party's request to re-enroll its former members. On December 31, 2021, Walker issued a decision requiring the state to re-enroll Libertarian voters.[4] After the Dec. 31 ruling, Andrews said, “I was a Republican before and many of my principles are aligned with them. There are a lot of Republicans I want to work with next year and through this session as well.”[4] Click here to learn more about state legislators who have switched political party affiliation.
On June 12, 2024, Andrews resigned from the Maine House of Representatives in response to Austin Theriault securing the Republican nomination in Maine's 2nd Congressional District.[5]

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
