John Asbell was a candidate for District 5 representative on the Troup County Board of Education in Georgia. Asbell lost to Catherine Sargent Hunt in the runoff election on July 26, 2016.[1]

Four of the seven seats on the Troup County Board of Education were up for general election on May 24, 2016. A runoff election was held on July 26, 2016, in District 5. Catherine Sargent Hunt defeated John Asbell in the runoff election after neither candidate reached a majority of the general election vote. Hunt and Asbell defeated Kendall Butler to reach the runoff.[1]

No incumbents filed for re-election in 2016. Newcomers Kirk Hancock and Brandon Brooks ran unopposed for Districts 2 and 3, respectively. Joe Franklin defeated Dorothy Corry Jennings and Rodell Poole for the District 6 seat.[1]
