John Baker (Indiana)
John G. Baker is a former judge on the Indiana Court of Appeals, representing the First District. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Evan Bayh (D) and was sworn in on June 2, 1989. He was retained by voters in 1992, 2002, and 2012.[1] Baker's current 10-year term expires on December 31, 2022. He served as chief judge of the court from March 1, 2007, to 2010, and as presiding judge of the first district in 2012.[2] Baker retired on July 31, 2020.[3] He was certified for senior status on June 23, 2020.[4]
Education
Baker earned his B.A. in history from Indiana University in 1968 and his J.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington Maurer School of Law in 1971. He received his LL.M. in judicial process from the University of Virginia in 1995.[1]
Career
Before joining the bench, Baker was a partner with the law firm of Baker, Barnhart and Andrews. He left private practice to serve as a Monroe County and Monroe Superior Court judge. Baker was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals after 13 years on the bench in Monroe County.[1]
