John Barnes (Democratic Party) was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing District 89.

Barnes (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Indiana House of Representatives to represent District 89. Barnes lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Barnes was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 32 of the Indiana State Senate. He previously served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 89th District from 2008-2010. Barnes defeated Patricia Mink in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2012.[1]

Barnes was born and raised on the eastside of Indianapolis.[2] He is a social studies teacher and department chair. Barnes started teaching in 1979

Barnes ran in the 2012 election for Indiana State Senate District 32. He defeated Patricia G. Mink in the May 8 Democratic primary[1] and was defeated by incumbent Patricia L. Miller (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]

Barnes lost to Republican candidate Cindy Kirchhofer by a margin of 8,066 to 7,468.[6] The general election took place on November 2, 2010.

In the May 4th primary, Barnes ran unopposed and received 1,909 votes.[7]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Democrat John Barnes won re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives District 89 receiving 13,442 votes, ahead of Republican Chris Swatts who received 12,182 votes.[8]

Barnes and his wife, Leslie, were married in 1992, and they live in southern Warren Township. They have two children: Eddie and Matthew.[2][9]
