I understand that the status quo in Alameda County isn’t working. From homelessness to housing affordability to public safety, our government is failing us. I’ve spent my career fighting to lift families out of poverty. As a former eviction defense attorney and homelessness services provider — who experienced housing insecurity as a young adult — I understand the complexities of our housing affordability crisis. As Emeryville’s Mayor, I spearheaded a $50 million affordable housing initiative, which was approved by voters and helped make Emeryville one of the only Bay Area cities to meet its housing goals. Under my leadership, Emeryville has reduced homelessness by 79% since 2019. As Supervisor, I’ll create more shelters with mental health and substance abuse services, bring people indoors, and provide the care they need. As a victims’ advocate, I am committed to partnering with law enforcement, small business owners, and the community to restore public safety. I’ll combat violent crime and smash-and-grab robberies while hiring more first responders and 911 dispatchers to improve emergency response times.
  • Affordable housing is a cornerstone of my agenda. I led a successful $50 million affordable housing initiative in Emeryville and will cut bureaucratic red tape to accelerate affordable housing projects across Alameda County as Supervisor. I’ll also work to strengthen protections for renters and create pathways to homeownership for working-class families.
  • Alameda County is in the midst of a homelessness crisis. Drawing on nearly a decade of experience in nonprofit homeless services – as well as my own lived experience with housing insecurity – I’ll create more shelters with expanded services for mental health and substance use so we can get people the care they need.
  • I have worked as a victims’ rights advocate for the last decade. As Supervisor, I will work with law enforcement, small business owners, and community organizations to proactively combat violent crime, retail theft, and burglaries. I will also improve emergency response times by hiring more firefighters, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers.
I am especially passionate about creating more vibrant, livable communities. This passion has been at the center of my work on the the Alameda County Transportation Commission, where I led the creation of the first county-wide Bikeways Plan, brought millions of our federal tax dollars back to Alameda County to create safer streets, and strengthened the County's Safe Routes to School program.

I plan to bring this vision to the Board of Supervisors, ensuring all of Alameda County benefits from more accessible and environmentally friendly transportation options and safer, livable communities.
I am deeply involved in my community, which has given me a unique understanding on the most pressing issues facing the residents of Alameda County. Through regular engagement with members of our community, I believe that we can tailor long-lasting solutions that uplift everyone in our neighborhoods.

Further, as an LGBTQ+ leader, inclusion, acceptance, healing, empathy, and justice are the values that guide how I lead. Together, we can overcome challenges, revitalize our communities, and build a greener, healthier future founded on safety and opportunity for everyone.
The county’s primary functions are to provide health services, public safety, social work, supportive in-home care, and mental health and substance use care for our residents. Alameda County is facing urgent affordable housing, homelessness, and public safety crises. It’s critical that we elect a Supervisor who has experience delivering real results on these issues.

Throughout my career as a nonprofit professional, I have worked alongside providers to deliver critical services to those who need it. I bring both lived and professional experience necessary to provide competent leadership to the county’s core functions.
