John T. Buckley was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. Governor Pataki appointed him to this position on March 4, 1999, and he served there until his retirement in 2010. Prior to joining the Appellate Division, he was elected to the State Supreme Court, 5th Judicial District in 1994.[1]

Education

Judge Buckley was born on February 8, 1936 in Utica, New York. He received a B.S. degree in history from Georgetown University in 1958 and a LL.B. from Albany Law School in 1961. He then served in the Army Reserve. He received his Master of Laws in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004.[1]

Career

Judge Buckley worked for the law firm Kernan and Kernan from 1962 to 1967. He then co-founded Buckley & Scholl, where he worked until 1979. During this time, from 1967 to 1972, he also served three terms as a Representative on the New York Assembly. He was elected to the Oneida County Court in 1979 and re-elected in 1989. He served on this court until his election to the State Supreme Court in 1994.[1]
