John Lowell Burton (born December 15, 1932, in Cincinnati, OH) is a politician and former chairman of the California Democratic Party.[1] He was chairman from 2009 to 2017 and between 1973 and 1974.

Burton was the sponsor of a Tax on California Oil and Natural Gas Initiative.
Elective offices
- 1965-1974: Member of the California State Assembly
- 1974-1982: Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Burton first won election to the U.S. House in a special election on June 4, 1974 to fill the California CD-6 seat made vacant by the resignation of Congressman William S. Mailliard.[2] On November 5 of that same year, he was elected to the California CD-5 seat. He was re-elected in CD-5 in 1976, 1978 and 1980. Burton resigned this position in 1982 when he entered rehab for cocaine and alcohol abuse.[2]
