John Butera was the Maine commissioner of labor. He was appointed by Maine Governor Paul LePage (R) in May 2017. He was confirmed by the Maine State Senate on June 1, 2017, and was sworn into office on June 14, 2017.[1][2][3] Butera stepped down in January 2019.[4]

Butera's career in economic development includes consulting experience and work with public-private economic development organizations. He served as the director of business development for the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development from 1998 to 2002 and as the executive director of the Central Maine Growth Council from 2002 to 2010. He later worked as a senior economic advisor to Governor LePage from January 2011 until he was sworn into office as the Maine commissioner of labor in June 2017.[3][5]
