John C. Wobensmith
John C. Wobensmith was the Maryland Secretary of State. He was appointed to the statewide position by Governor Larry Hogan (R). He succeeded John P. McDonough, who had served in the office since July 2008.[1]
In Maryland, the secretary of state is selected by gubernatorial appointment with the consent of the state senate. The officer serves at the pleasure of the sitting governor and is not subject to term limits.
Wobensmith left office on January 18, 2023 after Gov. Wes Moore (D) assumed office.[2]
Biography
John Wobensmith earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960. From 1976 to 1997, Wobensmith worked in the National Security Agency and the Office of Emergency Operations in the White House. He also served as the director of the Technical Liaison Office for the U.S. Department of Defense in Ankara, Turkey. Wobensmith was the vice president for international marketing for Sensys Technologies in London, and he served on the Anne Arundel County School Board.[3][4]
