John V. Centra was a justice on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. Governor Pataki designated him to serve as an additional justice on this division on October 6, 2006. He was re-elected in 2013.[1][2]

Centra left the New York Supreme Court in 2023.[3]

2013 election

Centra ran for re-election to the Supreme Court 5th Judicial District. General: He won without opposition in the general election on November 5, 2013.Anthony J. Paris was also on the ballot. Candidates competed for two seats.[4][5][2]

Education

Judge Centra received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his J.D. degree from Ohio Northern Law School. He now lives with his wife and four children in Fayetteville.[1]

Career

Judge Centra began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Onondaga County. In 1988, he became a Town Justice for DeWitt, NY. He held this position for 10 years. During this time, he also worked with the law firm Carni, Centra & Rose (1989-1991), Primo, Primo & Centra (1992-1997), and Primo, Primo, Centra & Kirwan, LLP (1998-1999). Governor Pataki appointed him to the New York Supreme Court 5th Judicial District in Onondaga County in May of 1999. He elected later that year to a term beginning in January of 2000. He now serves on the Appellate Division.[1][6]
