An effort in Metolius, Oregon, to recall Mayor John Chavez was initiated in July 2019. Petitioners submitted enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot. The recall election took place on October 8, 2019.[1] Chavez lost the recall vote and was removed from his position as mayor.[2]

Recall supporters
The recall effort began in response to allegations that Chavez concealed pending charges from a 2018 assault case and a 2019 arrest for drunken driving.[1]
Recall opponents
Chavez responded to the recall effort. He said, "I don’t want my personal affairs to impede my judgment while serving our great City. I am determined to lead as Mayor and to accomplish our goals in a professional manner with grace."[1]

Recall organizers were required to submit 45 signatures to put the recall on the ballot. Petitioners handed in 45 signatures on August 19, 2019.[1]
