The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was December 2, 2013. Incumbent John C. D'Amico ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and defeated Gregory A. Bedell (R), who filed to run on June 2, in the general election. Republicans Brad Dahlgren and Evelyn Mazzucco were both removed from the ballot on January 7, 2014.[8][9][10][11]

D'Amico and his wife, Christine, have three children. He is a member of the City Club of Chicago, Edgebrook Community Association, Edgebrook Sauganash Athletic Association, Mayfair Lions Club, Queen of All Saints Men's Club, and the Saint Edwards Athletic Advisory Committee.[21]
