John D. Wootten

John D. Wootten, Jr. was a circuit court judge for the Fifteenth Circuit Court in Tennessee. He served on the court from 1998 to 2019.[1][2][3] Wootten retired January 1, 2020.[4]

Wootten ran for re-election to the Fifteenth Circuit Court.
General: He defeated Aubrey T. Givens in the general election on August 7, 2014, receiving 74.4 percent of the vote.[3]
Education
Wootten received both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1975 and 1977, respectively.[1][5]
Career
Wootten began his career serving as a judge advocate general in the U.S. Air Force from 1978 to 1982. He also served in the Tennessee Air National Guard from 1978 to 2004, where he served as a senior judge advocate and achieved the rank of colonel. In 1984, he became an assistant district attorney general for the 15th Judicial District. He worked in that capacity until he became a judge for the Fifteenth Circuit Court in 1998. He has also previously worked as an attorney in private practice.[1]
