John Elbert Sater (1854-1937) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

He received a recess appointment from President Theodore Roosevelt on March 18, 1907. On December 8, 1908, he was nominated to fill a new seat created by 34 Stat. 928. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 1909, and received commission that same day. He retired on November 18, 1924.[1] Sater was succeeded in this position by Benson Hough.
