John Farley, III
John Farley, III is a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. He joined the court in September of 1989 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. He retired in 2004 and was recalled to senior status until 2012.[1]
Early life and education
Farley attended the College of the Holy Cross where he graduated in 1964 with an A.B. in economics. He went on to earn his M.B.A. from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1966. He earned his J.D. in 1973 graduating cum laude from Hofstra University School of Law.[1]
Military service
Farley served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until he was medically discharged in 1970 due to wounds received during Vietnam. He earned the following commendations:
- Four Bronze Star Awards
- Two Purple Hearts
- Army commendation medal[1]
Personal life
According to his biography Judge Farley is, "an avid golfer, skier, and instructor of disabled skiers, Judge Farley completed the 2005 New York City Marathon and the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Marine Corps Marathons on a hand cycle. He and his wife, Kathleen Wells Farley, have four children and thirteen grandchildren. They reside in Bowie, Maryland."[1]

John Farley, III was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims by President George H.W. Bush and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate began duty in September of 1989. He left the court in 2004 and was recalled to senior status until 2012. He is inactive.[1]
