John A. Field, Jr. (1910-1995) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Fourth Circuit

Field was nominated to the Fourth Circuit by President Richard Nixon on September 8, 1971, to a seat vacated by Herbert Boreman; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1971, and received his commission on September 22. He assumed senior status on April 1, 1976, and served the Fourth Circuit in that capacity until his death on December 16, 1995.[1]

Southern District of West Virginia

Field was nominated to the Southern District of West Virginia by President Dwight Eisenhower on May 11, 1959, to a seat vacated by Ben Moore; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 12, 1959, and received his commission on August 13th. He served as chief judge from 1959 until his advancement to the Fourth Circuit on October 7, 1971.[1] Field was succeeded in this position by Kenneth Hall.
