I am a lifelong Michigander, and my entire adult life has been spent in West Michigan. I was raised in a household that prioritized, above all else, public service and contributions to your community. My family has a long history of public service in elected office in Michigan, and it inspired my own ambition to be in service to my community, wherever that may be.

After graduating from Michigan State University, my wife and I moved to West Michigan in 2014. Seeking to serve, I became involved with local non-profits and have sat on the boards of Ele’s Place West Michigan, Ele’s Place Michigan, and the Clark Foundation. My professional background is in the insurance industry, spending most of this time in commercial property and liability insurance where I gained experience in negotiation, risk management and tolerance strategy, and commercial business and finance practices.

In 2020 I was elected to the Wyoming City Council as Member At-Large where I continue to serve. This post has provided me with valuable lessons and skills with regard to effective and responsive governance, the value of compromise, and strategic planning.
  • Economic Development: The 83rd District is made up of hard-working people. We boast a high rate of employment, yet the per-capita income is low relative to both state and county averages. I will work to promote greater job creation and attraction to the area while investing in job and skills training centers to help community members gain the necessary qualifications to this work.
  • Education: Strengthening our public education systems will be a priority for me in the legislature. This district has 8 public school system represented with varying needs, but each should provide students with an education which provides them a pathway for success both in and out of the classroom. Attracting new teachers to the profession and providing teachers with the funding and resources to educate our children well for continued success is critical to improving our community's future.
  • Community Safety: The health and safety of residents is a top priority, and my record shows that I support our first responders by providing them with the necessary equipment and training to serve out residents. I will continue this work as State Representative, ensuring our public safety teams, police and fire, are not only equipped to react to emergencies, but also proactively assist residents.
I am particularly passionate about policy areas affecting health, education, economic development, local government, and labor relations.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
