John Gayle (1792-1859) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama.

He was nominated by President Zachary Taylor on March 12, 1849. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 13, 1849, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on July 21, 1859. Gayle was succeeded in this position by William Giles Jones.
