Campaign themes
2014
Gerardi highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:
“ | Ensuring our students receive a quality education is very important to me. I believe that it is our responsibility, as a conscientious society, to provide our youth with valuable educational opportunities so that they can choose their own path in life, become positive contributors to our communities, and lead successful lives. I believe every child deserves a quality education in preparation of becoming productive/contributing members of our society and well-rounded citizens. Providing a wide-ranging education to our youth is crucial to their future and provides these individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully live, compete, and succeed in tomorrow’s global economy. No matter what path in life they choose, receiving a comprehensive education will allow our young people to better handle the ups and downs, successes and disappointments we all experience in life and to better adjust to these changes. There is no doubt in my mind that the better educated our children are, the better off our community will be.
I also believe that it is important for members of a community to become involved in their community, strive to be a positive influence, and get involved in the leadership of their community. In this regard I will work hard to be a strong voice in making decisions on what’s best for the district’s school children. I will work hard to make a positive impact in insuring every student in the Palm Springs Unified School District receives the best education possible, while using scarce resources as effectively and efficiently as possible. The City of Desert Hot Springs is a very special place that has a many wonderful citizens with great diversity – adults and children of all ages. The vast majority our residents care a great deal about our town and especially our children, who we feel given the right educational opportunity, will be valuable contributors to Desert Hot Springs and the entire Coachella Valley. As a Board Member representing Desert Hot Springs I will be a strong advocate for our schools, parents, and students, presenting an accurate description of our perceptions and educational needs. As most of us know, Desert Hot Springs is really a community with a lot of heart and soul, where many of our educators and students have achieved much success despite the obstacles they may have encountered. I would certainly be an advocate for this community, lending a voice to present their perceptions and educational needs. Should I be honored with this appointment, I understand that my role on this Board would include representing the entire district. In that endeavor, I would work hard in supporting the leadership of the superintendent, as well as the dedicated staff and faculty as they work toward insuring the entire district reaches its full potential and exceeds state standards. I would provide support as we work toward increasing student achievement, enhancing positive public perception, work toward organizational efficiency and effectiveness, and promoting the professional development for the staff. I would also make myself accessible to the public, available to the various constituents and community groups by attending public functions and events, visiting schools, communicating with educators, staff, administrators, parents and students, and will always seek input from the community as part of my decision making process. I would like to say again, education is very important to me. I have now made it my profession and truly believe through the combination of my own educational background and experience I will make a very effective member of the Palm Springs Unified School District Board of Trustees. I ask for your vote on November 4th.[5] |
