John Griffin is the Chief of Staff for the Governor of Maryland. He served as Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources from March 15, 2007 to May 20, 2013, after previously holding the position from March 17, 1995 to July 23, 1999.[1]

Griffin first entered public service in 1972, serving as committee staff director of the Prince George's County Council until 1978. From 1974-1978 he was a senior advisor to Governor Harry Hughes. Griffin then became deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources from 1984-1995, when he was appointed to serve his first stint as Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources under Gov. Parris N. Glendening. Leaving the post in 1999, he was General Manager of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission and Associate Vice President of Buchart Horn Incorporated before being re-named to the position of Natural Resources Secretary in 2007, and appointed Chief of Staff to the Governor in 2013.[2]

Griffin was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Maryland on May 20, 2013 by Martin O'Malley.[3]

Griffin was appointed as Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources by Gov. Martin O'Malley in January 2007 and officially became acting director on March 15.[4]

1995

Griffin was appointed as Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources by Gov. Parris N. Glendening in 1995 and served until 1999.[5]
