My life has been focused on service to my community and service to my country as a teacher and a Soldier. I was raised on a family farm where early in life my parents taught me the value of hard work.
I recently retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel with 38 years total service between Active duty, National Guard and Reserve service. After years serving between the military and teaching, I was recalled to active duty for the final five years. This service was initially as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, then when that duty was complete was asked to serve on the faculty of the U.S. Army War College where strategic level training and decisions are developed. Prior to these assignments,
I served my local community as a high school teacher where I taught students American literature and history, World literature and history, Advanced Placement Composition, psychology, and theater. Additionally, I worked with students after school coaching wrestling, cross country, track and field, directed the school plays, as well as sponsoring student government.
I am committed to our community and country. This is how I have lived my life and how i intend to serve in the Michigan Senate.- Lower the cost of living. The most important thing to Michigan families is being able to provide for their families.
- Strengthening family farms. The average age of farmers in America is over 60 years old. I will work to create incentives so that young Michiganders can afford to farm their family fields.
- We must be good stewards of the land and environment. This commitment protects our farms and preserves hunting and fishing traditions while ensuring we have clean water and a safe place to raise our children.
As a veteran, I am committed to ensuring those who made significant sacrifices in the defense of our nation have access to health care as well as quick access to mental health treatment.
