Heaton lost his bid for re-election to the 55th District seat in 2010. He had no primary opposition but was defeated by Cathrynn Brown (R) in the general election which took place on November 2, 2010.[1]

2008
On November 4, 2008, Heaton was elected to the 55th District Seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives, besting Cathryn Brown (R).[2] Heaton raised $107,431 for his campaign, while Brown raised $68,079.[3]
