John Hinrichs
John Hinrichs was a magistrate judge for the Second Judicial Circuit in South Dakota.[1] Hinrichs was appointed in 2007 to replace Patricia C. Riepel. He was re-appointed in 2011 and left the bench in 2016 for private practice.[2]
Hinrichs was defeated in the election to the open Position E circuit judgeship for the Second Judicial Circuit in 2014.[3]
Education
Hinrichs received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and his J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law.[4]
Career
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Hinrichs was an attorney with the Minnehaha County Public Defender's Office since 2001. He also worked as a law clerk for the Ninth Judicial District in Minnesota.[4]

Hinrichs ran for election to the Second Judicial Circuit.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on June 3rd, 2014, receiving 39.9 percent of the vote. He competed against Marc Feinstein and John Pekas.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 47.3 percent of the vote. He competed against John Pekas.
