I am John Hornbeck and I am running in the district I have lived for over thirty years, District 1. I was born and raised in St. Pete and went to high school, college and law school here.To find out a list of all my priorities, please visit VoteHornbeck.com. I will tell you my number one priority and that is my Youth First Initiative which includes Affordable Youth Programs. I was privilege to attend that same camp I taught at, Walter Fuller, from the ages of 9-14 for after-school and summer camp. I was blessed to have parents who could afford that. I understand that not every family can, so I want to make sure that every child, despite their socio-economic background, has access to the wonderful programs. From talking to many of you, I know one of your chief complaints is kids breaking into your car and stealing sunglasses and change or even the car itself. I want to take these kids of the streets where their hands are idol, and put them into social and fitness driven programs. I have been endorsed by the City Councilor, Charlie Gerdes, who seat I am seeking, as his replacement (he is term-limited). Our Mayor, Mayor Kriseman, stated his support Charlie Gerdes' recommendation of me. Once Councilman Gerdes is gone there will be no attorneys on council. Both Councilman Gerdes and the Mayor said it is beneficial, for the Council and the City, to have an attorney on council. I have also been endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats. I hope you will visit my website votehornbeck.com, and will vote John Hornbeck for District 1 this November. Thank you!
  • Youth First Initiative which includes Affordable Youth Programs.
  • Affordable Homes
  • Environmental Protections and Prevention of Sewage Spills
Youth First Initiative: |I previously mentioned the affordable Youth Programs element of this. To find out more, please visit VoteHornbeck.com.||Environment and Sewage Issues:|I will prioritize the continue implementation of the Integrated Sustainability Action Plan which works to reduce emissions, and increase energy efficiency and tree plantings. We need to understand that preserving our environment is not just the ethical thing to do, but it is also a positive financial decision. Tampa Bay is a critical revenue source for St. Petersburg and with ever-growing infrastructure issues the City and residents must act now to save the precious resource. Sewage and Wastewater Infrastructure might not be the prettiest use of money; however it is a vital investment. ||Affordable Homes:|First we need to understand that this crisis in St. Pete does not just affect not just affect low-income families, but also middle-income families as well. There are no easy solutions, but I pledge that I am committed to fighting hard for this issue and uniquely qualified as an attorney to battle tough problems, and work to find good solutions.St. Pete needs to ensure that low-income, elderly residents, and middle-income residents have access to affordable homes.
Integrity and Independence . It is of the highest importance that an elected official be free from any special interests that might cause you to vote to approve a project because the people backing the project supported your campaign by donating the maximum amount by law. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and its better to go hungry than to take money that ties you to someone who would benefit with you in office.
Integrity and Independence. The money I raised came from friends and family. In received no special interest money. I self-financed the majority of my campaign so that I would be free to vote my conscience.
One of the most significant events I can remember is the 9/11 Attacks. I was a sophomore in high school.
I worked concessions at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market.
Bible. It has much wisdom to help you live your life and understand your purpose.
As an attorney, many believe I am uniquely qualified to contribute to the overall team of the St. Pete City Council, by having a legal eye and mind when analyzing laws. The city council member (Charlie Gerdes) I would be replacing thinks it is very important to fill his seat with another attorney, because once he is gone there will not bean attorney on council. The Mayor also thinks it is important to fill Charlie Gerdes seat with an attorney!||My opponent is a property investor/developer. Many people as feel St. Pete is developing way to fast. We can either have an attorney (with no special interests) or a property investor/developer who has taken a significant amount of money from fellow property developers, construction firms, lobbyists, etc.
