Campaign themes
2016
Keating's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Promoting Fiscal Responsibility: John Keating has never voted for a tax increase, and never will. He believes if there’s ever a budget deficit, cut the size of government; if there’s ever a budget surplus, cut taxes. Second Amendment/The Right to Keep and Bear Arms: John Keating is a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment and will vehemently oppose any efforts to infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens. John has a Concealed Handgun License (CHL), and his military background has provided years of experience with firearms and munitions. John is a Life Member of the NRA and a Life Member of the Texas State Rifle Association. He enjoys hunting with his boys, and has an extensive firearms collection. Improving Our Education System: John believes parents should have the final say in the education of their children. That’s why he supports parents being able to decide what is best for their kids, whether they choose public schools, charter schools, private schools, or home-schooling. Pro-Life for Over 51 Years: John owes his life to his birth mother who courageously chose life and placed him for adoption. So being pro-life is not just a campaign slogan, it’s a deeply-held personal conviction from which he will never waiver. As one who was adopted, John is fond of saying, “I’ve been pro-life for 51 years and nine months.” As a state representative, John will support policies which respect the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. Securing the Border: As a veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Keating served in the coalition effort which defeated Saddam Hussein after the Iraqi Army invaded Kuwait. John has a deep understanding of the need to secure our borders and the dire consequences which can result when nations do not protect their borders and their sovereignty. John knows it is imperative for Texas to secure its southern border, and supports resources directed towards that effort.[6] |
