John Knight (Alabama)
John Knight (Democratic Party) was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 77. Knight assumed office in 1992. Knight left office in 2018.
Knight (Democratic Party) ran in a special election to the Alabama State Senate to represent District 26. Knight lost in the special Democratic primary runoff on December 15, 2020.
Knight was a 2018 Democratic candidate seeking to represent District 26 of the Alabama State Senate. He lost the primary runoff on July 17, 2018, after advancing from the primary on June 5. He was also a 2018 Democratic special election candidate for the same seat.
Biography
At the time of his service in the state House, Knight's professional experience included working as the special assistant to the president of Alabama State University and serving as the assistant vice president for institutional advancement.

2018 special election
A special election for the position of Alabama State Senate District 26 was called for May 15, 2018. A special Democratic primary election was called for December 12, 2017. Since no candidate in the Democratic primary received more than 50 percent of the vote on December 12, a special Democratic primary runoff was held on February 27, 2018. The special general election was held May 15, 2018.
The candidate filing deadline for major party candidates was October 10, 2017, and the deadline for minor party candidates and independents was December 12, 2017.[1]
The seat became vacant following Senate Minority Leader Quinton Ross' (D) resignation to become president of Alabama State University.
Democrat David Burkette defeated Republican D.J. Johnson in the special election.[2] Burkette defeated State Rep. John Knight in the Democratic primary runoff after the two emerged from the Democratic primary, defeating Deborah Anthony, Fred F. Bell, and Tony Q. Cobb Jr.[3][4][5]

Elections for the Alabama House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Incumbent John Knight was unopposed in the Democratic primary. David Grimes was unopposed in the Republican primary. Knight defeated Grimes in the general election.[6][7][8][9][10]

Knight won re-election to the 77th District seat in 2010. He had no opposition.[11]

On November 7, 2006, Knight was re-elected to the 77th District Seat in the Alabama House of Representatives, running unopposed in the general election.[12]

At the time of his service in the state House, Knight had two children. He was on the board of directors of a number of organizations, including the Cleveland Avenue Young Men's Christian Association, Family Sunshine Center, Kershaw Young Men's Christian Association, Montgomery Improvement Association, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and Southern Development Council, Incorporated.[14]
