Campaign issues

LaFerla highlighted the following four issues on his campaign website.[8]

  • Jobs & the Economy- "We need to take both immediate and long-term steps to grow our economy and create good-paying jobs throughout the first Congressional District."[9]
  • Protecting the Bay- "Making the bay healthy again means we need to work with the agricultural community to prevent harmful runoff and take steps to prevent urban sprawl that threatens to create more pollutants that harm the Bay. We need stronger penalties for the worst polluters, make sure that polluters pay to clean up the mess they make and do everything we can to prevent off shore drilling close to the Chesapeake."[10]
  • Preserving Medicare & Social Security- "In Congress, I will oppose efforts to weaken Medicare. Our current Representative voted for the Ryan plan, which would have ended Medicare as we know it and throw seniors to the wolves of the health insurance companies."[11]
  • Education- "We need to encourage innovation in our schools. To do so we need scrap the one size fits all federal mandates of No Child Left Behind."[12]
