John Laverty

John Laverty was an at-large member of the Cedar Rapids Board of Education in Iowa. He won re-election to his seat in the general election on September 8, 2015. He defeated Ann Rosenthal and Todd Cohenour for his at-large seat.[1][2]
Biography
As of 2015, Laverty was the senior associate director of admissions at the University of Iowa. He also served on the University of Iowa faculty and staff budget committee and the staff council. Laverty earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Iowa.[3]
Elections
2015
Four of the seven seats on the Cedar Rapids Board of Education were up for election on September 8, 2015. There were two at-large seats available, as well as a seat in District 1 and District 4.
Incumbent Mary Meisterling ran unopposed and won in District 1. The District 4 incumbent, Allen Witt, was defeated by challenger Rafael Jacobo. The race for the two available at-large seats included incumbents John Laverty and Ann Rosenthal, along with challengers Todd Cohenour and Kristin Janssen. Laverty and Janssen defeated Rosenthal and Cohenour for the two at-large seats.[4][5][6]

Funding
Laverty reported no contributions or expenditures to the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board during the election.[7] Any candidate spending, receiving or incurring debt in the amount of $1,000 or less was not required to file the disclosure form for campaign finances.[8]
Endorsements
Laverty received official endorsements from the South Central Iowa Federation of Labor and the Cedar Rapids Education Association.[9][10]
