Franklin-McKinley School District Board of Education At-large

John Lindner was an at-large representative on the Franklin-McKinley Board of Education in California from 2004 to 2018.[1] Lindner resigned in February 2018 following a conviction for theft and misue of campaign funds.[2]

In April 2018, Lindner was sentenced to 60 days in jail for stealing $28,000 raised for a school board bond measure. Lindner used the money for personal reasons. According to American School & University, he then hid the spending in campaign disclosure filings. In February, Lindner pleaded no contest to charges of grand theft, perjury, and violations of the Political Reform Act.[3]

Two of the five seats on the Franklin-McKinley School District Board of Education were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. In their bids for re-election, incumbents John Lindner and George Sanchez defeated challenger Lena Tran.[4][5]

Lindner filed an exemption form detailing he would not spend or receive more than $2,000 for this campaign. Because of this, he did not have to file additional campaign finance reports.[6][7]
