2014

Campaign website

McCann’s campaign website stated the following:

Eliminating waste at City Hall
John McCann knows the city owes it to residents to make sure tax dollars are used wisely. That's why John blew the whistle on the city's outrageous decision to hire a driver and bodyguard for a city politician for $10,000 per month. It was unnecessary and a waste of money, and John put a stop to it.

Remove tolls on the 125
Chula Vista residents are being double-taxed by the high tolls on the 125 toll road: we're already paying a sales tax surcharge to fund road projects. The high tolls on the 125 increases traffic congestion on our local streets, making them less safe and clogging our communities, and they make it harder for families to make ends meet. John will fight to remove the tolls from this vital freeway to improve quality of life for all Chula Vista residents.

Reinvesting in older neighborhoods

A strong Chula Vista means good streets, sidewalks and parks in all of our neighborhoods. That's why John McCann championed the first program to build and rebuild sidewalks, led efforts to repave decaying streets and initiated the building of Harborside Park.

Bringing a Four Year University to Chula Vista

John McCann is leading the effort to bring a major four-year university to Chula Vista. On the Chula Vista City Council, John chaired the city's university sub-committee, helping to secure the land for the new facility. Now, John will finish the job, bringing new educational and job opportunities to our city.

Fighting unfair taxes
In this economy John McCann knows many families are having a hard time making ends meet. That's why John fought plans to raise the city's sales tax and a tax on cell phones. They're unfair and the city should be working to make it easier, not harder, for families to get by.

Protecting children from violent sex offenders
Children are most vulnerable when they're away from home, like on their way to school or at a park. That's why John McCann led the effort to prohibit sexually violent offenders from living near parks and schools in Chula Vista, and he'll fight to protect that law.

Jobs and the Bayfront

Chula Vista needs to be one of the best places in California for businesses to locate and expand to create jobs. John McCann is committed to making the Chula Vista Bayfront a reality, helping to bring businesses, jobs and visitors to our city.[10]
