John Miglietta
John Miglietta was a 2012 Green candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Tennessee.[1]
Biography
Miglietta grew up in Queens, New York, where he got his bachelor's degree at Fordham University in 1984. He then got his master's and Ph.D. from New York University. He later moved to Nashville where he took up a Political Science teaching position at Tennessee State University where he has worked since 1999. He is also a member of such civic organizations as the Nashville Peace and Justice Center and the Tennessee Alliance for Progress.[2]
Campaign themes
According to Miglietta's website, his campaign themes included:
- Healthcare: "Our healthcare policy must focus on allowing our healthcare professionals to deliver quality preventive healthcare."
- Energy: "Just adopting these new technologies would not be enough unless there is an aggressive program of conservation and public awareness which government at all levels should encourage through education."
- Education: "The federal government must work with other levels of government to avoid the gross inequalities that often exist between school districts, or even within individual school districts."[3]
Elections
2012
Miglietta was defeated by incumbent Jim Cooper.[4] Miglietta ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Tennessee's 5th District. Dryer faced Jim Cooper (D) and Brad Staats (R) on November 6, 2012.[1]
