John Owens

John Owens is a judge of the Monroe County Surrogate's Court in New York. He was elected on November 4, 2014, for a term that expires on December 31, 2024.[1]
Owens was previously a judge for the 7th Judicial District Supreme Court in Monroe County. He took office in 2005 and served until his election to the Monroe County Surrogate's Court.[2]

Education
Owens received his B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1973 and his J.D. degree from the South Texas College of Law in 1977.[2]
Career
Owens began his career in 1978 at the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. He became a private practice lawyer in 1980 and worked in that capacity for twenty years. From 2000 to 2005, he was a principal law clerk for the Monroe County Surrogate's Court. He then joined the 7th Judicial District Supreme Court bench, where he served until his election to the Monroe County Surrogate's Court in 2014.[2]
