John P. Bennett (Kansas)
John P. Bennett was a judge for the Tenth Judicial District of the District Courts in Kansas. He was appointed in 1995 and was obligated to run for retention in 2012 to maintain his seat.[1] He was retained on November 6, 2012, for a term that would expire on December 31, 2016.[2] Bennett retired in March 2013, however, and was replaced by Timothy McCarthy.[3]
Education
Bennett earned his undergraduate degree from University of Missouri-Kansas City and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law.[1]
Career
Bennett was appointed to the Tenth Judicial District in 1995. Before his appointment he was engaged in private practice. He also served on the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals from 1979 to 1987.[1]
2012 election
Bennett stood for retention on Nov. 6, 2012.[4] He was successful in his bid for retention, earning 71.6% of the vote with 148,674 yes votes.[2]
