John P. Bessey was a judge for the Franklin County general division of the Courts of Common Pleas in Columbus, Ohio. He was appointed by former Governor George Voinovich in 1993 and he retired on December 31, 2012, due to the mandatory retirement age in Ohio.[1][2] Voters elected Kim Brown to take his place on the bench.[2]
