John Smith was a judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He was appointed by Governor Mark Dayton (D) on December 19, 2012.[1]

He ran unopposed for a full term in 2014. He announced his retirement in 2015, effective February 2, 2016.[2][3][4] He was succeeded by Judge Tracy Smith (no relation).

Smith received his B.A. from Concordia College in 1971, his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1975 and his LL.M. in litigation from Emory University in 1987.[5][1]
