John R. Chavez is a judge on the Valencia County Magistrate Court in New Mexico. He was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez in January 2014.[1]

He was elected to the Valencia County Magistrate Court in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2018.[2]

Chavez ran for re-election to the Valencia County Magistrate Court.
Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 56.2 percent of the vote. He competed against Joshua A. Sanchez.
General: He defeated Phillip A. Romero in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 54.0 percent of the vote. [2][3] 

Education

Chavez received a B.A. from New Mexico State University and an M.A. from Webster University. He also has an M.S.S. from the U.S. Army War College.[1]

Military career

Chavez retired as a U.S. Army Colonel in November 2013 after over 20 years of service.[1]
