On his website, Ravenscroft expresses support for coal and ethanol as energy sources, reduced spending and taxes, veterans' affairs, "empowering parents and teachers to make decisions with less government bureaucracy," the right to bear arms, the death penalty "for the most heinous crimes and criminals," "tougher penalties for sexual predators," parental notification laws, and English as "the official language." He defines marriage as being "between a man and a woman," and life as beginning "at conception." He opposes "amnesty, welfare benefits, driver’s license and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants."[1]

Ravenscroft ran for election in the 2012 election for Nebraska State Senate District 43. Ravenscroft advanced past the May 15 primary election and was defeated by Al Davis in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
