John Reid

John Reid was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He served from 1987 to 1999. He was recalled after retirement and served until his death in 2008.
Early life and education
Judge Reid earned his bachelor's at Wichita State University and went on to attend Washburn University Law, earning a J.D. in 1958.

Reid served in the United States Army prior to college.

In 1958 he married his wife Sharon with whom he had two daughters, Jennifer and Amy.

Judicial career
District of Kansas, Magistrate
Reid first joined the United States District Court for the District of Kansas as a part-time magistrate judge in 1984. He moved to full time in 1987 and spent the majority of his time on civil cases near Ft. Riley. He worked at Fort Riley until 2004 while also working in Wichita until 2001. He heard over 33 civil cases in Wichita and none of his verdicts there were overturned on appeal. He retired in July 1999, but was recalled and continued to serve until his death.
