John Schmidt was a Republican judge on the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court. He was appointed to the court in October 2017 and took office on December 7, 2017.[1] Schmidt had announced he would run for his seat in the primary election on March 20, 2018.

On December 19, 2017, Judge Schmidt passed away. He was 52.[2]

Schmidt was a judge on the 7th Circuit Court from 2010 to 2017.[3][4]

Biography

Schmidt received his undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University in 1987 and his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1990.[5] Schmidt served with the Illinois Attorney's Office from 1992 to 2010. He was elected to the circuit court in 2012.[6]

Schmidt defeated Tim Londrigan on Nov. 6, 2012, receiving 54.3% of the vote. He was unopposed in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012.[7][4][8][9]
