John Simson Woolson (1840-1899) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

He received a recess appointment from President Benjamin Harrison on August 14, 1891 and was nominated on December 10th. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 11, 1892, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on December 4, 1899. Woolson was succeeded in this position by Smith McPherson.
