John Spica (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent District 30. Spica lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Spica was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 30 of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2016

Spica's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Funding our public schools and making college and trade schools affordable for everyone. I believe we need to invest in the youth as they will become the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Raising the minimum wage, equal pay for equal work and keeping well-paying jobs in our communities
  • Growing and protecting organized labor so workers have a voice in the workplace and a way to negotiate collectively with their employer over wages, benefits and working conditions
  • Protecting our seniors and veterans. Social Security and Medicare need to be protected programs, they are important safety nets for our seniors. Our veterans stepped up and put their lives on the line for their country, we need to do our part by stepping up to take care of our veterans.
  • Fixing our roads. With our harsh winters Michigan has some of the worst roads in the country. We need to invest in our infrastructure and fix our roads so we can all travel safely around our beautiful state.
  • Ensuring that we all have clean drinking water.
  • Bringing mental health funding to the forefront.
  • Protecting our second amendment right to keep and bear arms.[2]
