John Stevens (Kansas)
John Stevens was a candidate for District 1 representative on the Wichita City Council in Kansas. Stevens was defeated in the primary election on August 1, 2017.
Stevens was a 2012 Republican candidate for District 86 of the Kansas House of Representatives. He ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in the November 2, 2010, state legislative elections.
Biography
Stevens is the president of the Wichita Pachyderm Club, a Republican organization that advocates for civic engagement, free enterprise, and limited government.[1]

Brandon Johnson and Mike Kinard defeated John Stevens and Janet Wilson in the primary election for the District 1 seat on the Wichita City Council.[2]

Stevens ran in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 86. He was unopposed in the August 7 Republican primary and was defeated by District 88 incumbent Jim Ward (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4]
2010
Stevens was defeated by Judith Loganbill (D) in the November 2 general election.[5]

Stevens provided the following response about city funding during a July 2017 forum:

McAdams Park, Edgemoor Park, Naftzger Park…these are projects that need funding. We should have rebuilt Edgemoor Park years ago. I was still on the park board when that thing was losing a foot and a half of water a day. [Former park director Doug Kupper had to shut it down. But we agreed to rebuild it in a year. We didn’t have the money that year. Where’d that money go? It’s downtown. Folks, it's downtown.[6][7] |
